- Listen to reggae, especially if you're driving.
- Leave earlier so you can drive more slowly. Racing around on the road does not produce calm, feel-good vibes. If you're listening to reggae, you'll find it difficult to speed anyway. Get over into the right lane, and take your time.
- Roll your windows down. If you're driving slower and jammin' to reggae, the warm breeze on your face should give you a nice dose of vacationlike feelings. *blissful sigh*
- Don't Honk! When the light goes from red to green, give it a little more time than usual before you notify the person ahead of you that they need to move. (Obviously some lights are very short or it's a turn lane - your call.) Honking just makes you feel like you're in a big rush, and it rushes the person ahead of you. You usually are only saving a few seconds of time anyway. I like the way people look at me after they see the other cars going and the green light. Makes me feel like they're thinking, "Damn, that's one cool broad."
- Get your feet into some sand. If you live by a beach or lake, get over there! I don't care if you have to stick your feet into a sandbox at the park; your feet need to be in sand sometimes, and your toes need to be wiggling around in it. It's cool, it's a massage in every step, it reminds you of sandcastles and daydreams. 'Nuff said.
- Look at some pretty water or other beautiful nature scene. Water is always calming. Find a body of it, and sit down for a few minutes. If that means you have to sit in your patio surrounded by potted plants, so be it.
- Replace your perfume or body lotion with suntan oil or your favorite sunblock. There's something about the smell of Coppertone or Hawaiian Tropic that just transports my brain to summer fun feelings. Put it on first-thing in the morning, and it'll start your day off in chill-mode.
- Go for a walk. Good, long walk or a short, hard walk - whatever it takes to get your mind off your troubles and kick in those endorphins. You'll feel mellow for hours afterward.
- Get a "sounds of nature" app to play at bedtime or whenever you can piece together 10 minutes to yourself. I have an Android phone, and I almost refuse to pay for apps. I use Music Therapy for Sound Sleep. It plays music and nature sounds together, but there are plenty of others that play just the nature sounds.
- Figure out why you care, then figure out how not to. This one's more difficult. Gotta think about why you allow yourself to be upset by what upsets you and whether it's worth costing you a good mood. If you can find a way to genuinely not care, do that. You can't just say you don't care, you truly have to let it go. Your body knows when you care about something even though your mouth is saying you don't.
